Following SOCAR's announcement that it will cease its car-sharing operations in Malaysia on 31 August 2026, GoCar Mobility (GoCar) is offering eligible SOCAR users up to RM200 in GoCar mobility platform to help ease the transition to alternative solutions.
The value can be applied to GoCar Share bookings, giving former SOCAR users another way to access a vehicle when needed without committing to vehicle ownership. Up to RM20 can be applied to each booking, allowing users to offset up to RM200 across multiple bookings.
“We understand that many SOCAR users will still need access to a car, whether for daily errands, work, family trips or occasional journeys. Our aim is simply to make that transition easier. We welcome SOCAR users to GoCar and hope the offer allows them to experience our service and find a mobility option that works for them,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Mobility.
GoCar Car sharing remains available across key city centers throughout Malaysia
GoCar currently operates across Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru and are serving more than 40,000 users annually, with vehicles available for a range of everyday and occasional mobility needs.
Through the GoCar mobile application, users can search for available vehicles, make a reservation and collect their selected vehicle from its designated location. Depending on the vehicle and booking, users can access compact cars, sedans, SUVs, MPVs and electric vehicles.
GoCar's vehicles are used for a variety of purposes, including daily errands, business appointments, airport transfers, family outings and weekend trips.
“We believe there continues to be a place for car sharing in Malaysia. Not everyone needs a car every day, and for some people, access can make more sense than ownership. We remain focused on making that access as simple and practical as possible, while continuing to expand the number and variety of vehicles available to customers,” said Wong.
More vehicle choices through GoCar P2P
Alongside its own car-sharing fleet, GoCar also operates GoCar P2P, a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform that allows vehicle owners to list their cars for rental.
The platform enables vehicle owners to earn additional income from vehicles that may otherwise be unused, while giving GoCar customers access to more vehicle types and locations.
Together, GoCar's fleet and P2P marketplace allow customers to access vehicles through a single platform while giving vehicle owners another productive way of using their cars.
Supporting continued access to cars without ownership
GoCar's latest offer comes as the Malaysian car sharing sector enters a period of change following SOCAR's decision to end its operations.
GoCar recognises SOCAR's contribution to the development of car sharing in Malaysia since its launch eight years ago. Both companies have played a role in introducing Malaysians to the concept of accessing a vehicle when needed rather than owning one.
“SOCAR has contributed to building awareness of car sharing in Malaysia, and we respect the role it has played in developing the category,” said Wong.
“For us, the priority now is to ensure that people who have become accustomed to accessing cars through car sharing still have options available to them. We will continue working on the service, vehicle availability and locations so that customers can use a car when they need one without taking on the long-term costs and responsibilities of ownership.”

Register between 19 August and 30 September 2026 and submit a screenshot of your existing SOCAR wallet for verification to marketing@gocar.my.
